Why share your souvenir pictures?
Since photography began, many photographers have wanted to show Versailles' many facets. Most have been passionate amateur visitor-photographers wanting to share their visit with friends and family. The Palace of Versailles is planning to bring together examples of these photographs. A chronological frieze will eventually span decades and, perhaps, reveal some continuity in the common practice of souvenir photography.
Which pictures ?
We are seeking pictures showing visitors at Versailles. They can be alone, with family or friends, in the palace, gardens or park. Film pictures up to the early 2000s are the hardest to find, but they are also the most surprising: start rummaging through your family archives! The most recent pictures are the archives of tomorrow. Feel free to share them with us!
How?
If you have digital pictures or a way to digitise your snapshots, send them directly to the Flickr group "Versailles en Famille". This link explains how: www.flickr.com/groups/versaillesfamille
We can help if you have photo archives that you think might be an asset to the project but do not have a way to digitise them! Send us an e-mail to see what we can do together: photosversailles@gmail.comIf necessary, we will also organise digitisation sessions at Versailles for people who would like to bring their family albums to the palace.
