Virtual exhibitions

Discover the new project made in partnership with the Google Cultural Institute and the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte.

After the publication of two virtual exhibitions: Louis XIV, the construction of a political image and Immortalising Versailles, the Palace of Versailles and Google carry on their partnership in 2015 by publishing with the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte a new virtual exhibition: Louis XIV / Nicolas Fouquet: a certain history of taste.

Those exhibitions of a new kind, specially developped to be seen on the web, enable you to discover new topics: with the union of Google's technologies and the artworks carrefully chosen by the curators, immerse yourself into the interactive fresco and you will discover the paintings, the sculptures and the engravings under a new light.

Louis XIV / Nicolas Fouquet: a certain history of taste

Louis XIV / Nicolas Fouquet

This exhibition takes a new look at Louis XIV and Nicolas Fouquet, two men of power that history has all too often shown in conflict, forgetting what they had in common, notably their tastes and artistic influences.

Curator of the exhibition : Lynda Frenois, Manager of the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte and its collections and Mathieu Da Vinha, Scientific Director of the Palace of Versailles Research Centre

Louis XIV, the construction of a political image

Louis XIV, the construction of a political image

Over 200 painted portraits and 750 engravings representing the Sun-King's all-might survived to the present day. This exhibition presents a selection of the most significant works and, through Louis XIV's differents images, show that the monarque was able, like no one, to make the art an instrument of power.

Curator of the exhibition : Béatrice Sarrazin curator in charge of the XVIIe century paintings.

Immortalising Versailles

Immortaliser Versailles

Through photos of the domain, taken since the invention of photography at the XIXe century, discover the contemporary history of the Palace : official visits of foreign head of State, views of the park after 1999's storm, restorations, or portfolios made by famous photographers.

Curator of the exhibition : Karine McGrath responsable of the archives.
