The return of Milo of Croton and Perseus and Andromeda

In the framework of the Year of Le Nôtre, the gardens of Versailles are being highlighted with special attention in 2013. So it is natural to undertake a project dedicated to the sculpture heritage of the gardens of Versailles by restoring, based on the originals, two sculpture groups carved by one of the greatest artists of the reign of Louis XIV, Pierre Puget: Milo of Croton (1671-1683) and Perseus and Andromeda (1679-1684).

Production of two copies

These two masterpieces were taken from the gardens in the 19th century and placed in the Louvre where they can be admired in the Puget courtyard. The casting of copies and their installation in their original position will revive the baroque spirit of the gardens of Le Nôtre and help to give back to Puget the place of honour that he held in the Versailles of Louis XIV.

This return is organised as part of the Year of Le Nôtre which celebrates the 400th anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre, designer of the gardens of Versailles.
