Sacchini made his Parisian début with Renaud. Criticism from supporters of Gluck and Piccinni, his rivals, flew from all sides. And yet, Renaud was a success. Sacchini became the new favourite of Marie-Antoinette and, encouraged by the public who viewed him as one of the best composers of the time, added several other masterpiece.

Les Agrémens

Guy Van Waas Conductor

Virginie Pochon Egle, Jennifer Borghi Medea, Frédéric Antoun Theseus, Tassis Christoyannis Aegeus, Katia Velletaz Minerva, Mélodie Ruvio Cleone

With this tragedy, Gossec composed one of the most amazing operas of the final years of the Ancien Régime. Scenes of battle, religious processions and diabolical invocations form the grandiose decorum of the wrongdoings of Medea, whose imprecations and evil spells accentuated by trombones and timpani do not succeed in separating Theseus from his beloved princess.
