A native of Turin who later became a naturalised Frenchman, Pancrace Royer is responsible for the musical education of the Dauphin. He composed several heroic ballets, but above all the lyrical tragedy, Pyrrhus, was the first major piece he composed, in 1730, at the Royal Academy of Music.
