Christophe & Guests

Christophe is certainly one of the most surprising individuals on the French music scene, one of the most talented too. Not because of his lasting career, but because he’s always trying something new and that each one of his releases seems better than the previous one. His last album was no exception, and there he is after 3 shows at the Olympia music hall and the beginning of a French tour, expected at Versailles for a crowning on the Neptune Basin. This exceptional concert is the opportunity to take us right back to the sombre atmospheres of Aimer ce que nous sommes, his latest daring album.

Sporting sunglasses, a jacket and a black silk tee-shirt, a silvery mane and moustache, Christophe uses his voice like a magic carpet. His high notes take off like the glitter from the popular music scene of the 1960s and 1970s, whirling fetishist fantasies of the American dream before escaping to a dream-like state collecting moments of grace. Gallantly, he’s taken up the challenge of adapting the multitude of climates, hosts of guests and the diversity of the inspirations of his last opus into a concert.

Rather than giving a condensed version of it, Christophe is aiming for extravagance, by inviting all the participants with him on stage: a female orchestra of approximately twenty stringed instruments directed by Brazilian Eumir Deodato, David Bowie’s bass player, Gail Ann Doresey, trumpet player Erik Truffaz, the harmonica player Diabolo and musicians from Seville. For the occasion, Christophe will be sure to include the pop hits that made him famous: Les marionnettes, succès fou, Señorita, les mots bleus, or les Paradis perdus, which will bring shivers to all generations.

Wenesday 15 july 2009, Neptune Basin – 9 p.m.
