Welcome to the Museum Library

Find out how to access the museum library of the Palace of Versailles and its available resources.

About the collections

The library’s book collections cover the history of France from the seventeenth to the twentieth century plus art history from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century.The library is a member of the National Museum Libraries network (BCMN) which includes the Louvre main library and 23 other important museum libraries throughout France.

Included in the collections are:    
- 12,000 volumes on paintings, graphic art, decorative art, sculpture, architecture, garden landscape and museology.
- Auction and sale catalogues, dating from the end of the nineteenth-century century to the present day
- 100 periodical titles including 40 on-going subscriptions
- Online resources: Encyclopedia Universalis, JSTOR, I.B.A. (International Bibliography of Art), Allgemeines Künstler-lexikon, Bénézit.
