Adopt a statue of the Grande Commande

Protecting the sculptures of the Grande Commande

Of the twenty-four statues commissioned by Colbert in 1674, six are still in danger and need to be sponsored.

The Grande Commande of 1674, sculpted masterpieces of the Gardens of Versailles created under Louis XIV's reign

Statues of the Grande

The Grande Commande of 1674

In order to decorate the new Water Parterre designed by Charles Le Brun and laid out between 1669 and 1672, an ambitious commission of sculptures was issued in 1674 by the Superintendant Colbert. Their purpose was to illustrate the influence of the sun on the world and on humanity.

Since 2008, the sculptures carved for Louis XIV to adorn the gardens of Versailles have been progressively put into shelter and replaced by copies.
