Tercentenary of the Royal Chapel, 20 April -18 July 2010

Begun in 1699 based on the plans of Jules Hardouin-Mansart and completed in 1710 under the direction of Robert de Cotte, the royal chapel probably represents the most fully achieved part of Versailles, after a long maturation and requiring considerable financial effort. To mark its tercentenary in 2010, the exhibition will cover the genesis of this striking chapel, as well as the key events in its history over the past three centuries. It will enable us to better understand the daring architectural features and extraordinary richness of its decor, once matched by its furniture. A publication, concerts and visits behind the scenes of the Chapel will accompany the exhibition, the first dedicated to this subject.
