Orangerie Gates and Gate of Honour

And iron becomes gold

This work will strive to bring back the majesty of the ruined gates around the château, mainly the Gate of Honour and those of the Orangerie. As the main entrance to the Palace, the 17th century Gate of Honour is practically unavoidable. Every year, ten million visitors go through this gate, which is probably the most visible element of the Estate.
The esplanade extending from the Orangerie and its flower beds framed by two monumental flights of stairs called the "Cent Marches" is lined with gates decorated with sculpted groups. On the other side is the Pièce d'Eau des Suisses.
All the gates of the estate are in a very poor state of preservation. A priority restoration programme has been defined specifically for these two remarkable ensembles: restoration of damaged parts, as well as existing ornaments and trim, replacement of missing elements, painting and gold-leafing of the ironwork and various ornaments, and in the case of the gates of the Parterre de l'Orangerie, restoration of the sculpted groups completing the ensemble.

Total estimated cost: €4,300,000: gates of the Parterre de l'Orangerie + sculpted groups + restoration of the Gate of Honour.
