To mark the 250th anniversary of American Independence, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a unique interactive virtual experience at the heart of the American Revolution, located within the Château, in dedicated spaces in the Pavillon d'Orléans.
Through original scenography and state-of-the-art XR immersive technologies, Light of Liberty offers visitors an unprecedented interactive encounter with the people and events that shaped the Franco-American alliance.
The experience invites visitors to explore the motivations and ideals of a revolution and to discover, in an engaging, entertaining and illuminating way, a defining moment in history.
The programme is based on extensive historical research and rigorous storytelling, centred around a reproduction of Louis-Charles-Auguste Couder's The Siege of Yorktown, 17 October 1781 (1836), displayed in the Gallery of Battles, which serves as the experience's visual focal point.
Over the course of 15 minutes, several interactive sequences accommodate 30 to 40 visitors at a time. Participants encounter the "Hero of Two Worlds," the Marquis de Lafayette, Benjamin Franklin, Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and other iconic figures. They take part in naval battles, diplomatic negotiations and a variety of interactive events while discovering the key moments of the American Revolution and their close connections with the Château de Versailles.
To further highlight this chapter of history, a new display bringing together works from the Château de Versailles collections will also be presented in the Captain of the Guards' Apartment, just a short distance from the experience. This new gallery will open on 4 July.
