Until 15 January 2017, the Palace of Versailles and the Centre des Monuments nationaux (CMN) present at the château d'Angers the exhibition "The Taste for Jewellery. From Versailles to the Tuileries".
Exhibition at Angers The Taste for Jewellery
The exhibition at the Château d’Angers
Different types of finery will be evoked by thirty or so paintings showing necklaces, rings and earrings, shoe and belt buckles and medallions decorated with diamonds and stones. The exhibition visit and catalogue will explore the direct links between jewellery and clothing as well as their different roles, such as diplomatic gifts between European courts and New Year presents for members of the royal family. The exhibition will be based on a study of the inventories and registers of gold and silversmiths and suppliers to the Crown. Last but not least, the approach will also allow a better understanding of the role of jewellery in portraits.
