Thousands of people pass through the Royal Courtyard of the Palace of Versailles every day. The first area to welcome the public after entering from the Place d'Armes, this monumental feature marks the beginning of each visitor's journey before their discovery of the estate. New benches have just been installed there, invitations to linger awhile and enjoy its royal perspective.
Adopt a bench in the royal courtyard
a model taken from the royal furniture
These benches are the result of in-depth historical research. Inspired by oak models conserved in the Palace's reserves, they are a contemporary reinterpretation of a piece of furniture that once accompanied walkers and daily life on the estate.
Their elegant design is in the style of the prestigious cabinetmakers Maison Jacob Desmalter, principal supplier to imperial and royal palaces in the second half of the 18th century. Created in enduring materials by a French company specialising in outdoor furniture for historical sites, they are designed to withstand the test of time, like the heritage they now accompany.
