For Monteverdi’s anniversary, Philippe Jaroussky wished to pay a tribute both to the composer and to his symbolic character: Orpheus.
12 and 14 March 2017 - Royal Opera PHILIPPE JAROUSSKY : LE MYTHE D'ORPHÉE
The myth is perfect for an opera libretto : to bring his beloved Eurydice back from death, Orpheus charms the gods of hell with the grace of his music. Monteverdi, Rossi, Sartorio, Gluck among others have sung this story of love and music. The program retraces the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, between heaven and earth, through two centuries of music; the highlight of the concert will be the unpublished version of Gluck’s Orfeo, with a new aria for Eurydice and an alternative duo for the original version, written for two star singers of the time, the castrato Tenducci and the soprano Anna de Amicis.
With the enchanting Amanda Forsythe as a partner, Philippe Jaroussky evokes this founding myth in all its baroque interpretations, to bring tears and songs to our hearts and souls. Diego Fasolis brings this music the emphasis and the urgency that are his signature on exceptional works.
