Life on the estate

The English version

The collection's website

Discover the collections of the Palace of Versailles through the new English version of the website. Containing over 60,000 works, the collections of the Palace of Versailles span a very broad period. The collections reflect the dual identity of the Palace, as both a palace occupied by the kings of France and the royal court, and later a museum “dedicated to the glories of France,” inaugurated by Louis-Philippe in 1837.

Restoration

Restoration of Apollo’s fountain

Apollo’s fountain is now in major need of restoration. The gilded lead parts of Apollo on his chariot need to regain their lustre. Starting in December 2022, the sculpted group will be dismantled, lifted out by crane and taken to a workshop for substantial restoration.

Paris 2024

The Palace of Versailles, host site of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

In 1682, the year the French Court was definitively installed at the Palace of Versailles, Louis XIV had the Great and Small Stables built to accommodate more than 600 horses. Horses have been a major feature at Versailles ever since, so it’s only natural that the equestrian events, as well as the modern pentathlon, of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will take place in the Park of the Palace of Versailles.

Colin de Blamont : Les Fêtes grecques et romaines

Rebel and Francœur, deserves to be rediscovered for his effective and endearing style, which Valentin Tournet harnesses as he conducts the Chapelle Harmonique, against a backdrop of the Paris Olympic Games!

Operas staged version

Saturday 29th and sunday 30th june 2024

Vivaldi : Gloria e Imeneo

The two young star counter-tenors, France’s Théo Imart and Italy’s Nicolò Balducci, will combine their sublime voices – especially at home in the soprano register – to lend Vivaldi the quicksilver colour that so well complements his music. Accompanied by the Orchestra of the Opéra Royal, they are conducted by Stefan Plewniak, the awe-inspiring violin virtuoso, who promised to play a high-voltage version of the piece! The director Nicolas Briançon will bring this formidable musical allegory to life amid the incredible period sets of the Théâtre de la Reine, which have been specially arranged for the occasion.
