For the first time, the Palace of Versailles is opening its doors for an extraordinary virtual reality (VR) journey back in time! Immerse yourself in 1682 and join André Le Nôtre, Louis XIV’s gardener, on a special tour of specific groves of the gardens which are no existing anymore. 

An immersive experience

Virtual reality has come to the Palace! Our first experience, available on site at the Palace of Versailles entitled Versailles: Lost Gardens of the Sun King, coproduced by GEDEON Experiences, Small Creative, VIVE Arts and the Palace of Versailles, will be available onsite from 25th March 2025 to 4th January 2026.

Visitors will be able to explore iconic areas of the gardens which have now disappeared as they are projected into the heart of the 17th century for a poetic interactive walk led by André le Nôtre, Louis XIV’s gardener.

This is a unique opportunity to discover the royal Menagerie with its exotic animals, the Labyrinth Grove and its fountains, and the grotto of Thetis with its exceptional rocaille decor!

Guided by the Palace’s gardener André Le Nôtre, explore the stunning architecture and exotic animals of Versailles’ original Royal Menagerie—all from your desktop or mobile, with no downloads or install required. This immersive, interactive trailer brings history to life and invites you to discover the full experience at the Palace of Versailles, no matter where you are in the world.

Admission until 4 January 2026 via the Pavillon d'Orléans.

The experience is closed on 1 January 2026, and every Monday.

Experience available in French, English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Experience recommended for visitors from 8 years old and over

  Time slots every 30 minutes
  • Until 31st, October: from 10 am to 6 pm (last slot at 6pm)
  • From 1st, November to 4, January 2026: from 10 am to 5:30 pm (last slot at 5:30 pm)

The Palace of Versailles opens its doors for an extraordinary journey through time in virtual reality! Dive back in time to 1682 and follow André Le Nôtre, Louis XIV's gardener, on a never-before-seen tour of gardens that have now disappeared.
This ticket gives access to the virtual reality experience. Book online and enter to the Palace in the half hour following the chosen time.

"Versailles: The Lost Gardens of the Sun King" lets visitors explore iconic areas of the Palace of Versailles gardens in the 17th century which have now disappeared, and gain a better understanding of how Louis XIV used the arts, architecture, and nature to assert his power.

 

The Palace ticket:

  • the temporary exhibitions held in the Palace;
  • the Gallery of Coaches (Open every weekend from 12.30 pm to 06.30 pm); 
  • the Royal Tennis Court (Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12.30 pm to 06.30 pm);
  • the Gardens (from 1 November to 30 March only) - to access the Gardens before 1 November, you need a Passport ticket or a Gardens ticket;
  • the Park
