12 June 2017 - 8pm - Royal Opera Cecilia Bartoli : Italian Journey

400 years of italian music : arias of Vivaldi, Caldara, Scarlatti, Händel, Caccini,  Paisiello, Giordani, Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini, Tosti, Donaudy, Bixio, Mario, Gambardella, de Curtis, Modugno.

Two decades ago, Cecilia Bartoli recorded a recital with James Levine at the piano, after years of working closely together. The exceptional balance of the programme, the beauty of her voice and its multiple facets, both interpreters’ permanent attention to each other showed that the recital with piano wonderfully enabled this exceptional singer to master and control everything to make this favourite form of her art an unforgettable experience.

In more than thirty years of career, the mezzo has passionately rediscovered baroque gems (Agostino Steffani) or iconic works (Rossini’s Otello) and also become a festival director (in Salzburg) and an orchestra director (Monte Carlo). Her musical objectives have not changed: they have excellence at their heart, the voice and all its inflections gloriously showcased in recitals, with no safety net.

For Cecilia Bartoli, the recital is a high-wire act, with its perfectly calibrated rhythms, its intense accents, its surprises and accelerations and the vertiginous moments where the audience is transported.

With opera and concert arias and melodies, this new recital will bring the public ever closer into the intimacy of Cecilia Bartoli, the Queen of mezzos and the Amazon of recital singers!
