Perfectly proportioned with refined decoration, the Royal Opera House was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel during the reign of Louis XV. It was inaugurated on the occasion of the wedding of the Dauphin, the future Louis XVI, and the Archduchess Marie-Antoinette of Austria.
