Archaeology in Versailles
20 years of archaeological excavations in Versailles
Founded in 2003 in the Grande Écurie (royal stables) of the Château de Versailles, the Académie du spectacle équestre (Equestrian Arts Academy) introduced a major innovation into the live entertainment sector. This high-level further education institution gives pride of place to training for shows displaying the equestrian arts.
The Academy is an institution dedicated to excellence based on the transmission of know-how and the reciprocal fertilization of various artistic disciplines. A place of creativity which it shares with the public, it is the result of a unique adventure that puts the spotlight on the equestrian arts in a very contemporary dimension.
Bartabas, the founder of this project, took over these royal stables as the scene for his 21st century choreography. This rider had dreamed of creating his own equestrian ballet group, an exceptional troupe in which each performer could reveal their talent and surpass themselves in original and unusual artistic scenarios.
On Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on some Thursdays during the year, the Academy proposes its repertory show La Voie de l’écuyer, which is presented in a new revamped version each year, combining the art of dressage, song, artistic fencing, Kyudo – Japanese archery – and dance. The public can also attend the Academy’s morning working sessions, Les Matinales des écuyers (Riding Matinees).
Apart from its presence in Versailles, the Academy also presents La Voie de l’écuyer around France and abroad. The troupe likewise puts on original shows, usually in untypical venues and in collaboration with artistes from very varied horizons.
