Weekend 7 & 8 March 2026 The women rights'week

To mark International Women's Day (8 March), the Palace of Versailles offered an ambitious programme designed to highlight women in French history, their representation at court, their cultural influence and their contemporary resonance.

Free guided tours

Two guided tours were offered for English speakers visitors, free of charge, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March with different time slots, accompagnied by a student from the Ecole du Louvre. 

Purple illuminations at the palace

For three evenings, March 7, 8, and 9, the facades of the Palace of Versailles were lit up in purple to mark International Women's Day.

Exhibition

1725. Native American allies at the court of Louis XV

In 1725, four Native American chiefs and a Native American woman from the Mississippi valley were received in France on a diplomatic mission and met Louis XV. The exhibition retraces this memorable encounter and explores the links between France and the Indigenous nations of North America in the 18th century.
