Virtual exhibition: the Palace of Versailles in Comic Books

Inspired by the exhibition ‘The Palace of Versailles in Comic Books,’ held in the Royal Tennis Court in autumn 2020, this virtual show is a unique opportunity to discover, or rediscover, Versailles through the eyes of the authors and illustrators of comic books.

The palace of Versailles in comic books

Through an insightful selection of twenty-plus panels, explore the special perspectives of comic book artists on the historic Palace and the people who have shaped its story. From Louis XIII’s hunting lodge to the Treaty of Versailles, these authors bring history to life with their imagined visions of the events which made Versailles. This virtual exhibition features, among others, panels from the Mousquetaire series by Florent Calvez, the Versailles series by Eric Liberge, the L'Épervier series by Patrice Pellerin, Mémoires de Marie-Antoinette by Isa Python and Olympe de Gouges by Catel Muller.

The codes of comic books

Why are comic books divided into strips? How are the panels coloured in? Get to know the creative techniques which underpin the “ninth art,” by taking a closer look at panels by Albert Feuillastre, Florant Grouazel and Martin Jamar.
