July 1st & 2nd 2017 LE DEVIN DU VILLAGE : THE QUEEN'S OPERA

EPV / Thomas Garnier

Marie-Antoinette meets Jean-Jacques Rousseau. What if the most charming of surprises had been waiting for you for two centuries in the Queen’s theatre in the Petit Trianon?

On 19th September 1780 Marie-Antoinette was on stage, to perform in costume with the Troupe des Seigneurs, in front of a public of close friends she had invited herself. She was the heroin of the Devin du Village (The Village Soothsayer) an opera in one act by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (the famous philosopher himself), maybe the most famous work of the time.

Come and experience this exceptional evening again, the fantasy of the Queen dreaming herself as a shepherdess, with singers and musicians conducted by Sébastien d’Hérin in a costumed revival, staged in the original sets, punctuated by tasty delicacies prepared by the Trianon Palace Versailles chefs.
