the exhibition

From 18 June to 29 September 2024, discover the artist Eva Jospin and her work Chambre de soie (Silk Room) at the Eva Jospin–Versailles exhibition in the Palace’s Orangery. At 107 metres long and covering over 350 m2 in total, the embroidered Chambre de soie invites visitors to stroll past and take in its monumental scale.

Epic embroidery

The more of 350 m2 of embroidered landscapes in Chambre de soie were inspired by the Room of the Embroidery at the Palazzo Colonna in Rome and Virginia Woolf’s novel A Room of One’s Own. The work was produced by the craftsmen and women of the Chanakya studio and Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, under Eva Jospin’s direction. The artist was invited by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director at Dior, to present her creation during the fashion house’s Autumn-Winter 2021-2022 haute couture show.

Uniquely in tune with the Palace of Versailles Orangery

For this work, Eva Jospin took inspiration from her favourite themes: nature, strolling and architectural follies. In the Orangery, Chambre de soie will be exhibited linearly, inviting visitors to stroll past it.

Eva Jospin is to add a new embroidered panel to the work especially for this exhibition. This panel will be inspired by the groves in the Versailles gardens – in particular, the mythical Labyrinth Grove and Enceladus Grove.
