Nestled at the far end of the Estate, along the banks of the lake, you will find the thatched cottages of the Hamlet built by Richard Mique for Marie-Antoinette. These survivors of a dazzling and eventful period exemplify the Queen’s taste for the charms of country life. While some cottages were devoted to farming activities, others were designed to be enjoyed during a stroll or to receive guests. Their refined interior decor contrasts with their rustic exteriors. They can now be rediscovered thanks to restoration work.

In 1774, the Queen received the gift of the Petit Trianon from Louis XVI. The estate became her kingdom. Freed from the constraints of etiquette, she created a world in keeping with her own personality and the fashions of the day.

The Queen's private chambers have reopened after several years of work.  Located behind the State Apartment, these rooms were decorated with the greatest care and underwent numerous modifications. Marie-Antoinette left her exquisite mark on them with valuable furniture, paintings and art objects evoking her personality, lifestyle and passion for decoration, the arts and fashion.
