SHOWS at the palace

As part of this special new programme, the Royal Opera is staging 13 major productions, including four new “house” operas:

This new season will also feature special guest artists in some unforgettable concerts and shows: John Eliot Gardiner conducting Berlioz’s Les Troyens, William Christie conducting Handel’s Ariodante, Jordi Savall conducting Monteverdi’s Orpheus, plus performances by Sony Yoncheva, Philippe Jaroussky, Jakub Józef Orlińsk and Cecilia Bartoli.

Over the course of the season, the Royal Opera will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Palace of Versailles, established in 1623, with iconic French musical works, such as the famous Bourgeois Gentilhomme by Molière and Lully, the Naissance de Versailles (Birth of Versailles) concert with the Consecration Mass of Louis XIII’s Palace, Rameau’s comic operatic ballet Platée, Charpentier’s and Lully’s Te Deum, and Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse (Don Quixote visits the Duchess), by Boismortier.

In terms of dance performances, Thierry Malandin will be staging his new production Les Quatre Saisons (The Four Seasons) based on the music of both Vivaldi’s and Guido’s Four Seasons. Angelin Preljocaj returns with the magnificent ballet Blanche Neige (Snow White) and his Homage to Russian Ballets.
