SHOWS at the palace
The program of the new 2021-2022 musical season of the Palace of Versailles pursues the goal of offering a lyrical scene of excellence, and places the music of the 17th and 18th centuries at the heart of its program.
Among the highlights of this new program, you will find great scenic projects such as :
- Grétry's Richard the Lionheart, the Royal Opera's first full-length production which was a great success from its premiere in 2019;
- The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart's masterpiece brought to life by a powerful staging by star director James Gray;
- And the highly anticipated Atys by Lully in a new production choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj with conductor Leonardo García Alarcón.
Also not to be missed :
- Philippe Jaroussky and Valer Sabadus will revive the incredible repertoire of the first castrati in Paris;
- Plácido Domingo will arrive at Versailles with a program featuring operatic masterpieces;
- And Jakub Józef Orlinski who will offer a recital featuring Handel and Vivaldi in the Hall of Mirrors.
In 2022, on the occasion of Molière's 400th birthday, the Royal Opera pays tribute to the giant of French theater. Comedy-ballets, concert operas and concerts are on the program.
And despite the unprecedented situation we have been experiencing for the past two years, a total of 107 performances will be offered, beginning on October 2 with a concert dedicated to Napoleon's favorite singer, the castrato Girolamo Crescentini, played by countertenor Franco Fagioli.
