Museum of the Royal Estate of Marly
Museum of the Royal Estate of Marly
Benefit from discounted rate on the entrance ticket (€5 instead of €7), which gives access to the permanent collections, upon presentation of your “1 Year in Versailles” card.
“Sire, Marly!” Just like Louis XIV’s guests, utter this entreaty to discover the secrets of the Sun King’s rural residence, far removed from all the pomp of Versailles.
Marly was both a hunting lodge and a palace replete with water features to which the king liked to retreat with a small band of favoured courtiers. Coming to Marly meant spending a few days with the king in an intimate setting and enjoying the various activities, games and balls he arranged for his guests. The power dynamics at Marly were complementary to those at Versailles and it had its own customs and rules.
The palace was demolished in the early 19th century… today, the museum invites you to rediscover its history and that of the Marly Machine – the “8th wonder of the world”.
Address: Museum of the Royal Estate of Marly, 1 Grille royale – Parc de Marly, 78160 Marly-le-Roi
Opening hours:
From November to March: Wednesday to Sunday, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
From April to October: Wednesday to Sunday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
